Team Nigeria have yet to make a podium finish at the ongoing Olympic Games in Paris, and the games have gone on for 13 days. Medal hopeful, Ese Brume missed out on Thursday night in the women’s Long Jump event as she finishes 5th in the final with a mark of 6.70m.

The African Record holder inspired a Nigerian 1-2-3 participation in the final. Brume, Ruth Usoro and Prestina Ochonogor were in action in the final. It was the first time Nigeria will field three athletes in the final of an individual event at the Olympics.

Earlier in the day, Nigeria’s men and women’s 4x100m relay teams crashed out from the heats of their respective competitions. Also, Nigerian weightlifter, Folashade Rafiatu Lawal came very close to finishing on the podium in women’s 59kg category. Despite an injury, she finished 5th in the event, lifting a total weight of 230kg.

Bello finished 6th in the second quarterfinal with a time of 49.24s, while Otuedo came in 8th in the 3rd heat, crossing the line in 1:01.

82. The Nigerian athletes did not qualify for the semifinals. Nigerian Record Holder, Ezekiel Nathaniel did not make it out of the semifinal in the men’s 400m Hurdles.

Much earlier in the day, Nigeria’s Odunayo Folasade Adekuoroye lost her quarterfinal women’s wrestlin.
