Vadodara: An employee of a jewellery shop in Godhra stole jewellery worth over Rs 1.26 crore in the last three weeks. The Godhra police have filed an FIR against Anustha Parwani and her boyfriend Nimesh Thakwani for theft.

The police said that they have arrested Parwani, but Thakwani is on the run. Himanshu Advani, owner of the jewellery shop, filed a complaint against the duo after the theft came to light on Saturday. Advani told the police that he had asked his staff members to count all the jewellery stock on Saturday evening.

During the audit, 16 gold chains worth Rs 26.60 lakh and 49 gold bangles worth Rs 99.50 lakh were missing.

Baffled over such a huge missing stock, Advani started questioning all his employees. Parwani later admitted to having committed the theft. She had joined the jewellery shop one year ago, and the owner had given her the responsibility of counting all the jewellery at the end of the day and keeping the tally.

“Parwani took advantage of it and started stealing the gold chains and bangles over the last 20 days,’’ said N V Patel, deputy superintendent of police, Godhra. Parwani told Advani that she used to hand over the stolen ornaments to her boyfriend. “We suspect that her boyfriend may have instigated her to commit this offence.

He is not even employed currently,” Patel added. The girl has reportedly told the police that her boyfriend forced her to commit the theft by threatening to make her private photos viral. We also published the f.
