Alice Dingle, a beloved character from Emmerdale , was last seen on screen almost two decades ago. The character, portrayed by Ursula Holden-Gill, first arrived in the Dales in 2004 and quickly became a favourite among the soap's dedicated viewers. Fans will remember Alice as the loving mother married to Sam Dingle (James Hooton), with whom she had a son, Samson.
However, her character met a tragic end in 2006. Alice was diagnosed with cancer during her pregnancy but chose to continue carrying her child, giving birth prematurely. Despite undergoing chemotherapy, the treatment was unsuccessful.
Consequently, Alice and her husband Sam devised an euthanasia plan, leading to her death from a morphine overdose in 2006. After leaving the soap, Ursula pursued a career in teaching in 2007, earning her full Teacher status and establishing herself as a professional Storyteller. The West Yorkshire-born actress has since retired from acting, with her last on-screen role being a Clerk in the TV mini-series, In the Dark in 2017.
Furthermore, Ursula qualified as a Dramatherapist in 2022 and states on her website that she is "committed to Child and Family Trauma Therapy", reports Leeds Live . Ex- Emmerdale actress Ursula has not only altered her looks dramatically since her days on the popular soap, where she was known for her short, vibrant red hair, but she's also embarked on a new path as a Family Celebrant. She now sports a longer, lighter hairstyle that softly touches her chin.
