Pune: A 67-year-old Khadakwasla resident was arrested on Sunday on charges of confining an 11-year-old girl in his house and raping her around 11.30am on Friday when she was passing by his house on her way to school. The matter came to light when the girl narrated the incident to her teachers on Saturday during a "good touch, bad touch" workshop organised by the school.

"The teachers alerted the school principal. The latter then contacted the girl's parents, who are casual workers. Her father (43) lodged a complaint with us on Saturday night," inspector Sachin Wangde of the Haveli police said.

The officer said, "The arrested man was a farmer till he gave up all work and started staying idle at home. His family members were away from home at the time of the incident. The girl was walking to her school through a lane where the man stays.

He pulled her inside his house and raped her. Later, he let the girl go and she attended her school." Wangde said, "When the girl went to the school the following day, she attended the counseling workshop.

She then narrated the incident to her teachers. The girl was bleeding at the time and she was admitted to a hospital." The police have registered a case of rape and offences under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
