The cleaning fanatics revealed that one kitchen ingredient works better than bleach for tackling bacteria and killing mould 'at the root'. A fan took to the Facebook page Mrs Hinch Made Me Do It, describing her washing machine hack as a chemical free way of banishing bacteria, as an alternative to bleach. The Facebook user wrote: "While it's possible to use bleach to kill mould as well, experts agree that vinegar is a much better option," She explained that as well as being cheaper, vinegar was actually a better tool for the job of mould-killing than bleach, the Mirror reports.

She said: "Unlike bleach, vinegar can effectively kill the mould at the root, which means it's even less likely to return. Vinegar is also less toxic than bleach, making it a better choice for household use. White [vinegar] is better.

" White vinegar can be used for cleaning many different household items. However, to clean the washing machine you should add it to the drum of the machine, or to the detergent drawer to tackle limescale and any build-up of mould in there. Add the product and then turn on your machine whilst it is empty, setting it to the hottest cycle possible.
