Robert Taylor's final TV role before her untimely death saw her appear in Shakespeare & Hathaway – Private Investigator as a shop owner. The 76-year-old actress played Gloria Fonteyn, who runs a costume shop, in the One daytime detective drama from 2018 until 2022. Taylor previously starred as Inspector Gina Gold in The Bill and she also appeared in Viceroy's House, The Foreigner, Doctors, and on as the character Irene Ramond.

She suffered from lung disease emphysema and it was announced she sadly passed away on July 6 after a fall a couple of months ago led to the infection. Her condition got worse and she caught pneumonia, the reports. After her death was announced, friends and fans rushed to social media to pay tribute.

Tributes poured in after her death, with actor Nicholas Pegg writing on X: "Beautiful, brilliant Roberta Taylor. Adored by millions for her roles in The Bill and EastEnders. Outstanding in Shakespeare, Inspector Morse, and all points in between.

A mighty raconteur, a demon at Scrabble, and a dear friend. Thoughts are with her family and her beloved Pete." EastEnders story produer Kyri Zindilis, posed: "Devastated to hear this – I adored Irene Raymond.
