EastEnders have paid heartbreaking tribute to actress Roberta Taylor after she tragically passed away. The official EastEnders Instagram account posted an image of Roberta during her time on the show as they offered their condolences to her friends and family and remembered her "formidable" character Irene Raymond's time on Albert Square. They wrote: "We’re deeply saddened to hear that Roberta Taylor has passed away.

"Roberta made an impact with audiences from the first moment she arrived in Albert Square with her performance as the formidable Irene Raymond. Roberta will always be remembered fondly by everyone that worked with her and our love and thoughts go to her family and friends." Roberta died this week at the age of 76.

She suffered from lung disease emphysema and passed away on 6 July after a fall a couple of months ago led to the infection. The actress' condition got worse and she caught pneumonia. The star, also known for her role as Inspector Gina Gold in the popular ITV crime soap drama The Bill, left behind her actor husband Peter Guinness, her son Elliott, a granddaughter and two stepbrothers.

Her last major TV series appearance came on the private investigator's comedy Shakespeare & Hathaway. She joined EastEnders in 1997 and left in 2000. The actress was introduced as the matriarch of the Hills family who stopped by to visit her estranged kids Sarah (Daniela Denby-Ashe) and Tony (Mark Homer).
