The Great British Bake Off is back for its fifteenth edition tonight, welcoming a new batch of bakers to the iconic white tent. Kicking off the series with the classic Cake Week, the contestants will be attempting to perfect the humble loaf cake. Baked in a loaf tin, similar to what you’d use to bake a bread loaf, the bakers will have to show off their tried-and-tested recipes using a cacophony of flavours to set them apart.

Once completed you can enjoy the cake as a bread-like slice, instead of the traditional wedge you’d get from a circular cake. Traditionally cakes are baked in the oven, but with the ever-increasing popularity of the air fryer , you can opt for a more energy-efficient option instead. Many air fryers have baking capabilities, and it doesn’t require a lot of effort.

To help novice home bakers, BBC Good Food has shared an incredibly simple recipe for a classic lemon drizzle loaf cake that’s perfect for baking in the air fryer. You’ll only need six ingredients to complete the bake, with most of them being store cupboard staples, so you’ll probably have them lying around. Some avid home bakers tested the recipe out for themselves, here’s how it went.
