Pune: Two motorcycle-borne men threatened a 24-year-old and robbed him of his gold ring worth Rs20,000 around 9pm on Thursday on Katraj Dehu Road Bypass near Dukkarkhind. The victim, Pranavraj Sudam Gaikwad of Paud Road, lodged a complaint with the Warje police early on Friday. According to police, Gaikwad works with a private company.

He was heading home on his motorcycle and had halted at the spot. The two men approached Gaikwad and began threatening him, claiming that he was involved in an illegal drug business. The two claimed that Gaikwad was supplying contraband in the city.

"Gaikwad was taken aback by the allegations. The duo then slapped him. Gaikwad then put his hand in between to avert their blows, when one of the men grabbed his hand and took the ring," inspector Pravin Badak of Warje police said.

"Gaikwad fled the spot. He later realised that the men had stolen the gold ring and approached the police," Badak added. The area, police said, is not under CCTV surveillance, and they are trying to ascertain the registration number of the motorcycle to apprehend the duo.
