The board approved a $970,360 contract to Midwest Tile for flooring replacement at the school. The work will include replacing existing carpeting in the academic wing with new carpet tiles and installing new luxury vinyl tiles in the nurses' offices, according to Superintendent Chip Pettit. Additionally, Valparaiso-based H & T Electrical Services LLC was awarded a $224,800 contract to install the center scoreboard inside the main gymnasium.
The work will be completed in three phases, according to Pettit. Both projects are slated to start over the spring break and be completed by the end of the summer. The board also authorized Duneland School Corp.
officials to seek bids for the planned playground renovations at Baily, Brummitt, Jackson and Liberty elementary schools. All the projects will be financed through a $14 million general obligation bond approved last month. In other business, the board approved one-time supplemental payments to certain teachers and staff.
The payments will come from a nearly $29,000 Early Literacy Achievement Grant received from the Indiana Department of Education. The grant is meant to reward schools and educators for providing literacy and reading instructions in kindergarten through third grade. The next school board meeting is set for March 3.
