Sunday, September 15, 2024 Commuting in Dubai has become easier with the opening of two key bridges as part of the Garn Al Sabkha-Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road Intersection Improvement Project . The newly opened bridges span 1,265 meters, each with two lanes, and have drastically improved traffic flow during peak hours. The first bridge, extending 601 meters, has a capacity of 3,200 vehicles per hour and serves eastbound traffic from Garn Al Sabkha Street to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, continuing north towards Al Qusais and Deira .

The second bridge, at 664 meters, eliminates overlapping traffic from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Al Yalayis Street and Jebel Ali Port , further enhancing smooth traffic flow. A third and final bridge is scheduled to open in October , spanning 943 meters with two lanes in each direction, designed to handle 8,000 vehicles per hour . It will improve connectivity between Sheikh Zayed Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.

Mattar Al Tayer , Director General and Chairman of the RTA, announced that the project is 97% complete , in line with directives from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum , Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and closely monitored by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum , Crown Prince of Dubai. The project aims to support Dubai’s growth and address increasing urbanization needs. Upon completion, it will link major roads, including Sheikh Zayed Road , First Al Khail Road , and Al Asay.
