The Mountain City VFW Post 6908 is a lifeline for many in the community. In addition to caring for veterans, the organization has a well-deserved reputation for giving back to the community. Following its motto, “Veterans First Community Always,” Post Commander Dan Parsons and his fellow veterans continue to work tirelessly in the community, helping wherever they can.

Now, the organization that has helped so much is in need of help itself. The building for VFW Post 6908, located at 179 Depot Street, Mountain City, TN, was inundated with raging water when Furnace Creek overflowed as the storm Helene ravaged through town. When the creek overflowed, the building’s crawlspace and parking lot filled with so much water that they resembled small lakes.

Unfortunately for members of the Post, the loss was formidable. It downed trees, destroyed the air conditioning and heating unit, saturated all the insulation, and removed the electrical and plumbing, to name just some of the destruction. The repairs are estimated to cost upwards of $200,000.

“We don’t have enough money to start anything; I don’t know where to begin,” said Dan Parsons, Commander. “If we don’t get a serious infusion of cash, these doors won’t open.” Post 6908 has become a vital part of Johnson County.
