However, experts have now warned that motorists who are caught using these apps behind the wheel will be dealt severe consequences.

Drivers could be landed with a hefty fine or penalties on their license as a result of using these mobile phone apps on the roads. Experts at Swansway Motor Group have issued some further advice on the subject and offer some safer alternatives for road users. The motor group explains that being caught interacting with a hand-held mobile phone device can result in an eye watering fine.

So much as a glance at your phone to tap an app such as Google Maps or Waze can result in fines up of to £1,000 for car drivers. If you're driving a lorry or a bus, you could be charged up to £2,500 for the offence. It's not just fines that drivers need to worry about, as legal consequences of using a phone in any way while driving have been significantly tightened to emphasise the dangers involved.

In 2022, it became illegal to use a hand-held phone behind the wheel with the possibility of acquiring six penalty points or a drivin.
