Drivers left trapped on a beautiful North Wales beach are calling the police for help. Motorists are able to bring vehicles on to Morfa Bychan (Black Rock Sands) near Porthmadog . This in itself has caused issues with reports of anti-social driving on the majestic beach in Gwynedd.

Now North Wales Police have put out a message about a second problem. There is a barrier at the entrance and exit of the beach to control access. This is managed by Cyngor Gwynedd and the barrier comes down each evening at 8pm.

But some motorists are either missing the warning signs or losing track of time and getting trapped at the site. Police say the control room has had several calls in recent weeks from people who are stuck there - even though the force does not manage entry and exit.

It has seen the police issue a reminder to leave the site by 8pm. One person commented that the beach patrol used to go along with a loud hailer just before the barriers came down to warn everyone. Another suggested "charging the overnight stayers".

A third added: "Nothing wrong with folk staying over night, though the period of time or time of year must be controlled, as the sea would cause problems and be a risk.
