A softball bout between two conference foes, each with one loss on the year, ends in the Mid-Buchanan Dragons defeating North Platte 4-1 on Tuesday. Both teams entered Tuesday night’s contest in Dearborn as two of the top teams in Class 2. Neither Mid-Buchanan nor North Platte would see an opponent as formidable as each other to this point in the season.
Starting pitching became paramount in the game, as one pitcher took a couple innings to get their footing, while the other was superb from the jump. Starting pitcher for North Platte Kate Wolf took a couple of innings to settle in. Despite hitting three batters, and finding herself in a bases-loaded jam at one point in the first two innings, Wolf only gave up one run in that span.
Wolf would then strike out the side in the third inning, and post scoreless innings for the Dragons in the third and fourth innings. Starting pitcher for Mid-Buchanan Kaylea Myers came out the gates strong. Myers had a perfect game through four innings, and struck out six of eight batters in the first three innings of the game.
The Panthers would eventually register hits in the latter half of the ball game, but Myers was able to keep the offense of North Platte at bay to slow the Panthers’ momentum in key spots when it would start to pick up. Senior Kaleigh Strong of Mid-Buchanan came up with the biggest play of the game. With the score 2-1 in Mid-Buch’s favor, Strong hit a two-run home run to left field to increase the Dragon lead to 4-1.
