Richmond Animal Care and Control in the US recently got a heartbreaking call to a house where a dog was living with her owner who had died. “She had lived in the apartment for five days, unfortunately, with her deceased owner,” said shelter director Christie Peters. The dog, named Belle Kara, was taken to the shelter on October 7.

At first, she seemed slightly anxious and timid, but she soon warmed up. Shelter staff got in touch with the owner’s family, and no one was able to take the dog in. A relative signed 2-year-old Belle Kara over to the shelter so she could be adopted.
