A renowned canine behaviourist has shared his insights into what he believes to be the most challenging dog breed to train in the world. Will Atherton , who has garnered more than 900,000 followers on TikTok , is no stranger to sharing dog training tips as well as advice on which breeds are suitable for which people, depending on lifestyle and temperament. In one of his viral videos, Will delves into answering: "What is the hardest dog breed I've ever had to train?" And having worked with thousands of dogs across hundreds of different breeds, he is well-equipped to weigh in on the matter.

Will said the toughest breeds to train are typically those "bred to work very independently". He went on: "You combine that with violent or guarding tendencies, and it often means - not necessarily that they're harder to train - but the potential for things going wrong goes through the roof." Livestock guardian dogs, like the Caucasian Shepherd or Turkish Kangal, epitomise this type of dog "perfectly" in Will's view.

Yet, he flagged up another breed, more familiar to many, that always presents a "challenging" training experience - the Siberian Husky. Explaining his stance, he said: "It's why you will rarely, if ever, see practising dog trainers or canine professionals actually owning them. And my opinion is that they are more cat than they are dog.
