The Los Angeles Dodgers spent big last offseason to land Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto. It paid off as they won the World Series. They could look to spend big again to chase back-to-back titles.

While ranking the most likely destinations for New York Yankees superstar Juan Soto, Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter named the Dodgers the fifth best fit. "The creative nature of Shohei Ohtani's heavily deferred contract means the Los Angeles Dodgers could conceivably make a run at signing Soto this offseason without going so far into the luxury tax threshold that it bankrupts the organization," wrote Reuter. Reuter projects Soto to sign a 15-year, $600 million deal in free agency.

According to The New York Post's Jon Heyman , the Dodgers will make a run at Soto in free agency if he's interested. The Dodgers have deep pockets, but they have spent so much money last offseason, that they may only be able to afford one superstar free agent, and shortstop is a glaring need. "The bigger question is whether this is simply posturing on the part of the Dodgers to help drive up the price for someone else, or if they would seriously prioritize another superstar bat over shoring up the pitching staff," wrote Reuter.

"Then again, when it comes to the Dodgers, it's not always a matter of one or the other. They could sign a top starting pitcher and Soto if last offseason is any indication of their willingness to spend." More MLB: Dodgers predicted to cut ties with beloved veteran after World S.
