Vadodara: Junior doctors played the role of security guards at the state-run SSG Hospital on Tuesday. With ‘Main Bhi Chowkidar' slogans posted on their aprons, shirts, and t-shirts, the junior doctors staged the protest demanding security and safety measures on the hospital premises. On Monday, the Junior Doctors Association ( JDA ) of the Baroda Medical College submitted a list of seven key demands which they said would end the strike.

"We stood outside the wards as security personnel to stress that the hospital premises is in dire need of enhanced security," said JDA president Dr Chintan Solanki. "Additionally, through a ‘shradhanjali' programme, we paid homage to the assurance letter which was provided to us a year ago by the hospital authorities. Earlier, when security issues had surfaced, we were provided this assurance letter.

But nothing has moved so far," he said. Amid the ongoing strike demanding justice for the rape and murder victim of the RG Kar Medical College, Kolkata, JDA has demanded that the number of security staff at the hospital be increased to a minimum of 350 personnel. Currently, there are 112 security guards who work in three shifts at the 1,513-bedded hospital.

The association has also demanded that ‘She' team should be permanently deployed at the hospital, a 24x7 police station should be set up on the campus, and the entire premises be covered under the CCTV surveillance. MSID:: 112657041 413 |.
