Disgraced Huw Edwards has issued an apology to those he has 'betrayed' ahead of sentencing, a court heard today. Defence barrister Philip Evans KC said Huw Edwards was “truly sorry” for how he has “damaged his family and his loved ones”, and for committing the offences. He told Westminster Magistrates' Court: “He knows he has hurt and he has damaged his family and his loved ones around him.

For all of this, he is truly sorry and he is truly sorry he has committed these offences.” The shamed BBC News At Ten anchor pleaded guilty in July this year to three counts of making indecent photographs / pseudo-photographs of a child. Seven of the 41 images were the most serious type.

Edwards was “vulnerable” when convicted paedophile Alex Williams first messaged him, the court heard. “Alex Williams sought him out and he sought him out on Instagram at a time when Mr Edwards can properly be described as having been vulnerable," his barrister went on. “Independent experts have assessed him as being mentally vulnerable at that time.

” The defence barrister continued: “He is no longer on television. “You have witnessed the manner in which he has fallen from grace as a consequence of this offending. He was sought out by Alex Williams and as a consequence of being sought out.

.. in amongst those lawful communications Mr Edwards was sent (images), he did not request in fact he positively at times tried to resist those images – but ended up with them in any event.
