Chris Davies celebrated his first win as Birmingham City manager on Tuesday with a 1-0 triumph over Charlton Athletic at The Valley. Brandon Khela’s first goal for Blues settled the contest and secured passage into round two of the Carabao Cup. Blues also had goalkeeper Ryan Allsop to thank after he saved Tyreece Campbell’s early penalty and they saw the game out with 10 men after Dion Sanderson was dismissed.

Blues will discover their opponents in the second round in Wednesday night’s draw but their focus shifts back to League One for the next two weeks.
