This recognition will be officially awarded to the village on November 27 at a special ceremony in Delhi. What sets Devmali apart is its profound spiritual connection to Lord Devanarayan, with around 3000 bighas of land in the village dedicated to the deity.

Interestingly, the villagers possess no formal land ownership documents, as they believe the land belongs solely to Lord Devanarayan. The village’s selection as India’s Best Tourism Village is based on its popularity among visitors and its role in safeguarding local cultural heritage. Devmali’s unwavering commitment to its traditions and religious beliefs made it stand out among other entries.

One of the village’s most unique aspects is the absence of permanent houses. In honor of their deity, villagers live in mud houses with thatched roofs, and no one consumes non-vegetarian food or alcohol. There is also a strict ban on the use of kerosene and neem wood for fuel.

Remarkably, no homes in Devmali have locks, a testament to the trust and security that has defined the village for generations. The village has remained free from theft or robbery for decades. A major draw for tourists is the hilltop temple dedicated to Lord Devanarayan, which draws hundreds of thousands of visitors annually.
