Tom Cruise is reportedly in talks with Paramount Pictures about doing a follow-up to his 1990 NASCAR racing film “Days of Thunder” according to . Hailing from the original “Top Gun” team of director Tony Scott and producers Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer, the film received mixed reviews upon release and made just $157 million globally from a production budget of $60 million. These days it’s mostly remembered as the film Cruise and then future wife Nicole Kidman met on, along with Scott’s robustly directed action and a solid Hans Zimmer’s musical score.

The hope is Cruise can revive the property in a way “Top Gun: Maverick” did for “Top Gun” a few years ago. Cruise nixed a potential “Days of Thunder” TV series a while back. The project is out to potential writers now.

Cruise is about to film Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s “The Revenant,” has a “Top Gun 3” in development along with Doug Liman’s space movie He’s also got to promote the recently wrapped “Mission: Impossible 8” which has a budget that’s reportedly approaching $400 million due to various delays. The trade indicates Paramount is interested in promoting the film as a ‘final’ entry in the franchise to boost interest, but Cruise has been against saying a public goodbye to Ethan Hunt.
