We are spoiled for choice when it comes to beautiful walks in , but if you’re just getting started and are unsure where to begin, then an upcoming festival could be just what you need. Organised by charity Youth Hostels Association (YHA), the Festival of Walking is returning to for its third year with a social stroll perfect for all skill levels. This national celebration of all things walking will be taking place over a month-long period between September 13 and October 13.

With an aim to inspire more people to get out and about on their feet, themed-walks will be held around the country, organised by over 50 YHA hostels. Here in Kent, a social walk will be taking place around Canterbury on Saturday, September 28, beginning at 10am from the YHA Canterbury hostel on New Dover Road. Completely free to join, the guided mindfulness walk will span 3.

7 miles and take approximately three hours to complete in all, following a circular urban route around the edge of the historic city. Organisers have said the experience “combines learning and practising the technique of mindfulness to develop a deeper appreciation of the walking experience.” While it is totally free to take part, donations towards , which aims to install vital defibrillators at every YHA hostel in England and Wales, are encouraged.
