It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Darlene Rose Peterson on Aug. 15, 2024. Darlene was a beloved mom, fur-mom, grandmother, sister, daughter and dear friend, cherished by all who knew her.

Darlene is preceded in death by her husband, Garry Peterson, and son, Mark Peterson. Darlene is survived by her daughter, Lisa Peterson Weninger and her two children, Payton and Campbell, sister Lynna Gay Bowers, and two grandchilden Emily and Clayton Peterson. She is also survived by her faithful dog, Willie, her constant companion over the past few years.

She met Garry while he was in the Army and she was a flight attendent for United Airlines. They married in San Francisco in 1963, at a beautiful Swedish church, before moving to Woodland where her husband Garry was a teacher at Woodland High School. Early on, Darlene worked at Beamer elementary school where her children, Mark and Lisa, were attending, mainly to keep an eye on them (really it was just Mark.

). Once the kids got to high school, she figured it was their Dad’s turn to keep an eye on them and left to work at a different school in the Woodland School District, ultimately retiring as the school secretary of Plainfield Elementary School. She loved her job and the children who attended Plainfield, and it was always fun to see her run into a student as an adult, since many recognized her and wanted to say hi.

She was an avid reader, and loved her Bay Area sports teams. She traveled extensively when Garry .
