A fascinating local derby clash is in prospect tomorrow night when Daisy Hill make the short trip to Crilly Park to face Atherton LR in the North West Counties League First Division North (7.45pm). Daisy go into the game on the back of their shock win against Premier Division Lower Breck in the FA Vase last Saturday, and manager Lee Hill is keen to ensure his side take the positives from that.

“The main thing to take from the game last Saturday is that it gives us a platform to build on, and the confidence it gives the lads,” said Hill. “It wasn’t a lucky performance by any means, we’ve had some good ones this month so far. We put six goals past Skelmersdale United and we beat a good Route One Rovers team, who beat us twice last season.

“It’s testament to the hard work that the management team and players have put in. I think it shows we are putting building blocks in place, and we are moving in the right direction.” Despite their recent good form, Daisy go into Friday’s derby as underdogs against an LR side who have started the season in impressive fashion.

“Atherton LR are a really good side, a very effective side who have had a brilliant start to the season, and that has been a continuation of what they did last season. “It will obviously be a tough game for us, but I think it will be a good game, and recent form tends to go out of the window on these occasions. “LR are further ahead with their project than we are with what they have put together on.
