Vadodara: Cybercriminals duped two persons out of Rs 1.07 crore in two separate incidents in the city. The victims were lured by the the promise of high returns on stock trading and were coaxed into downloading mobile apps.

Deepa Vijay, a resident of Gorwa, lost Rs 58.38 lakh. She clicked on a Facebook advertisement for stock trading in April, after which she was added to a WhatsApp group.

She told police there were 151 other members in the group. She was asked to fill out a form and furnish her personal details and a copy of her Aadhaar card, which she did. Deepa was then sent a website link and given a user ID and password.

When she logged in, she could see various investment plans offering high returns. She transferred money and the website showed her as having profits of Rs 3.20 crore.
