James Paxton is still a member of the Red Sox , has already announced his retirement and all but certainly watched Game 5 of the World Series from his couch Wednesday night. None of that precluded him from winning a World Series ring thanks to the Dodgers. Paxton, who made 18 starts for Los Angeles to start the season before being traded to the Red Sox in a midseason deal, will get a ring with the Dodgers dispatching the Yankees with an epic 7-6 comeback in Game 5.

Paxton’s second Red Sox tenure lasted only three starts before he partially tore his calf on August 11 in what turned out to be his final major league start . The oft-injured soon-to-be 36-year-old, after 103 starts over 11 big league seasons with four teams, plans on hanging it up this winter. Also receiving a World Series ring with Los Angeles are six former Red Sox who appeared in games for the Dodgers this year.

Some — like Mookie Betts, Kiké Hernández, Ryan Brasier and Joe Kelly (injured for the postseason) — are obvious . Others, like Yohan Ramírez and Dinelson Lamet, who each had brief cameos with the Sox over the last couple years, are not as memorable. 2004 Red Sox champion Dave Roberts is a World Series champion for the third time and the second as a manager; two of his coaches (Aaron Bates and Josh Bard) suited up for the Red Sox as players.
