Netflix's release CTRL attempts to warn the foolish and clueless audience of the impact of their choices in today’s digital India. The film explores the tech-savvy Gen Z world of social media, apps brimming with convenience and an AI uprising. However, it remains away from the sci-fi genre to focus on the evil lurking just around the corner, capitalism and monopoly.
This is Ananya Panday's third release that comes with some sort of a public interest topic and explores the plot with subtle screenplay. The film follows a couple who has shared their entire lives on social media. There are many influencers who begin common accounts on social media and document their lives together.
CTRL starts with a montage of Njoy, Nella and Joe’s first date, their first community video, their anniversaries and their growing fan following. While the world on their social media looks perfect it changes the minute you see them behind the scenes. On their fifth anniversary, Nella follows him to surprise him live but it turns out to be her worst day as they catch him cheating on her.
Her downfall on social media begins thanks to a quarrel with the other girl and Joe in the restaurant which goes viral. Memes, songs and debates took place over their relationship, their identities and more. The film does replicate the social media scene to the dot.
In an attempt to get rid of his memories, Nella downloads an AI app CTRL to erase Joe from her photos and videos. SEE ALSO: Ananya Panday Calls Deepfak.
