The population growth has led to a renewed push to fix traffic problems during peak periods, particularly the train station pedestrian crossing.

A proposed pedestrian underpass or overpass was included in Sutherland Shire Council's new roads strategy, which was adopted earlier this year. Cronulla MP Mark Speakman, whose preference is an underpass, has been told a consultant's report is due to be received in April next year. "South Cronulla is one of the most beautiful places in the shire, but it's a hassle getting in and out with traffic snarls around central Cronulla," Mr Speakman said in video posted on social media.

The biggest of the new Cronulla developments is Vue, opposite the northern end of the mall, where a huge tower crane was erected in August. One of the largest mobile cranes in Sydney was brought in to erect the Luffer tower crane to a height of approximately 12 storeys. Vue will have two eight-storey towers above a podium containing 112 apartments, as well as commercial offices and a ground level shopping centre.
