The (EFCC), Ibadan Zonal Directorate has secured the conviction of two brothers, Samuel Adedeji Adeboye and Charles Adedamola Adeboye, along with 33 others, for internet fraud. The convicts were sentenced by Justices Ladiran Akintola, Bayo Taiwo, and O.S.
Adeyemi of the Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan. The defendants were charged with offences related to impersonation, obtaining money by false pretences, and possession of fraudulent documents. They pleaded guilty to the charges and were sentenced accordingly.
The Adeboye brothers were convicted on charges of impersonation and aiding internet fraudsters. Samuel Adeboye received a one-year sentence with an option of a N100,000 fine. His brother, Charles Adeboye was sentenced to one year imprisonment with an option of a N30,000 fine.
The other 33 convicts, including Oluwadamilola Michael Omotayo, Boluwatife Ajewole Alaran, and Michael Damilare Badaru, received varying sentences of imprisonment or fines ranging from N30,000 to N500,000. Several were also ordered to perform community service without the option of a fine. In addition to their jail terms and fines, the convicts were ordered to forfeit assets obtained through fraud.
Items forfeited include luxury vehicles such as Lexus, Toyota Camry, Mercedes Benz, and Acura cars, as well as other assets linked to the proceeds of their crimes. This case highlights the EFCC’s continued efforts to crack down on cybercrime and bring perpetrators to justice..
