Mumbai: A magistrate court accepted the closure report submitted by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) in the FIR against Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Waikar and several others in a case involving the construction of a luxury hotel in Jogeshwari, in violation of the agreement with BMC . The police filed a C summary report in court in July this year. Santosh Mandavkar, a sub-engineer in the BMC, lodged an FIR in this case.
The police booked Waikar, Manisha Waiker, business partners Aasoo Nehlanai, Raj Lalchandani, Prithpal Bindra, architect Arun Dubey, and others. The Enforcement Directorate also registered a money laundering case based on this FIR of September 14 last year. An EOW source earlier said, "Based on BMC's letter that they did not find anything wrong and misuse of land was not there, we filed a C summary in court.
" In Feb, the BMC, which filed an FIR against Waikar in an affidavit in the Supreme Court, said it wanted to reconsider the decision. The SC was hearing an appeal by Waikar against a Bombay High Court order that refused to grant him relief against BMC's decision. The HC rejected Waikar's plea challenging BMC's decision to cancel hotel construction permission, stating that he suppressed facts.
Waikar was with the Shiv Sena (UBT) when he was being probed. He then joined the CM Eknath Shinde-led Sena and successfully contested the Lok Sabha elections from Mumbai North West. .
