A councillor has reassured the community after a "serious assault" left a man with life-changing injuries on Saturday. The attack took place at around 4.40pm yesterday in Chorley Old Road, with police and paramedics being called to the scene.

The victim was taken to hospital with injuries believed to be life-changing but not life-threatening. No arrests have yet been made relating to this incident. The scene of the attack (Image: Public) Cllr Rabiya Jiva, portfolio holder for Stronger Communities and representing Halliwell ward, said: "I have asked the police for an update on this incident.

"I would like to reassure the public that police are aware of this and managing the issue, it is best to allow them to do their jobs. "Officers believe that it was a targeted incident. "If anybody witnessed anything, please contact the police or Crimestoppers.

" The incident (Image: Public) The road was cordoned off by police at around 5pm before being reopened later on. A GMP spokesperson said: "At around 4.40pm on August 10, officers were called to reports of a serious assault on Chorley Old Road, Bolton .

"One man was taken to hospital with serious life-changing injuries not believed to be life-threatening at this time. "No arrests have yet been made and enquiries are ongoing. It is believed to be a targeted attack with no wider threat to the community.
