Angela Onwuzoo Developing stretch marks in pregnancy has to do with the woman’s genetic composition and the use of cosmetics products can’t remove them, physicians have said. The medical professionals, however, said after delivery, some of these streaks might slowly fade in colour but may not disappear because they are in the gene. Giving insight into why some women develop stretch marks during pregnancy, the doctors said the skin around the abdomen stretches as a result of the growth of the baby.

The experts advised pregnant women trying to remove stretch marks at all costs through the use of cosmetics products to desist from the act, stating that stretch marks are among conditions that seem impossible to reverse. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, there are no proven remedies that keep stretch marks from appearing or that make them go away during pregnancy. “As your belly grows during pregnancy, your skin may become marked with reddish lines called stretch marks.

By the third trimester, many pregnant women commonly have stretch marks on the abdomen, buttocks, breasts, or thighs. “Using a heavy moisturizer may help keep your skin soft, but it will not help get rid of stretch marks. Most stretch marks fade after the baby is born, but they may never disappear completely”, says ACOG.
