Dame Maureen Lipman appeared on ITV's Lorraine on Thursday, November 14, and spilled the beans about an off-screen marriage proposal. The Coronation Street actress, known for her role as the formidable Evelyn Plummer in the iconic ITV soap, revealed to host Lorraine Kelly that she's set to walk down the aisle once more at the age of 78. Maureen, previously wed to Corrie scriptwriter Jack Rosenthal from 1974 until his passing in 2004 due to cancer, is now engaged to her partner David Turner.
During her chat on Lorraine, the presenter probed: "In real 'true' life, you're planning a wedding. Are you planning a wedding? Is it all happening?" To which Maureen joyfully confirmed: "The very mention of the word 'venue' fills me with fear." She went on to express: "We are astounded that you can have a love affair at this age.
We had sort of talked about marriage but in a kind of ha ha ha way," reports the Liverpool Echo . The proposal came about in a rather unconventional manner; Maureen popped the question to David while they were on a train journey, seizing the moment after he brought up Tu B'Av the Jewish festival when a woman can ask a man for his hand in marriage. Lorraine couldn't contain her excitement, exclaiming: "Congratulations, it's brilliant.
