A Coronation Street star has left the soap - and now worried fans reckon a recast is on the cards. In a dramatic revelation last month, fans were told that Martin Platt, portrayed by Sean Wilson, would be returning to join the narrative for Gail Platt's (played by Helen Worth) farewell episodes, as she departs after an incredible five decades on the show. Martin, Gail's ex-husband, graced our screens from 1985 until 2005 and was last seen in Weatherfield six years prior.

The recent news divulged that Sean decided to leave the soap. As confirmed by a Coronation Street representative to The Mirror: "Sean Wilson has stepped down from filming for personal reasons." What’s more, it’s also been claimed the news has come as a “complete and utter shock”’ to everyone at Corrie .

A source told The Sun: “Sean was loving his time on the show, and he was very popular on set. “He had filmed scenes with loads of the cast, but then suddenly he was summoned to head office, and later it filtered out he wouldn’t be returning or his scenes airing, but no explanation offered." Distraught at hearing about Sean's retreat from the series, Corrie fans took a significant blow.
