Rapid City SD - One of the many events during Rapid City's annual Downtown Pumpkin Festival was the Touch a Truck event at City Hall, which hosted police cars, fire trucks, garbage trucks, ambulances and a lot more. The event is hosted by Rapid City's Public Works Department. Its goal is to help bring awareness to the people who work often-overlooked essential jobs in our community.

“You know, we have some very dedicated staff who show up every day to do the dirty jobs that keep our cities going," said Public Works Administration Operation Manager Shannon Truax. "And they really are unsung heroes. And so we love having this chance for them to interact with our citizens in a positive way.

” Touch a Truck is most popular among the community's youngest residents. The event giving kids a chance to come out, honk some horns and learn more about the jobs in our community..
