BLOOMINGTON — A 21-year-old man has been acquitted on sexual assault charges following a three-day jury trial in McLean County. Jordan A. McMath, of South Holland, was charged in January 2023 with four counts of criminal sexual assault, all Class 1 felonies.

Had McMath been found guilty in these offenses, he would have faced 16 to 60 years in prison. McMath was accused of sexually assaulting a woman in an Illinois State University dorm on March 27, 2022. The woman was an ISU student, but McMath was not, the state confirmed.

He was arrested on a grand jury bill of indictment in January 2023 and posted $2,535 in bail to be released. McMath was tried this week before Judge Jason Chambers. Kevin Sanborn of Johnson Law Group in Bloomington represented him, and Assistant State's Attorney Don Rood III prosecuted the case.

According to a news release from the Johnson Law Group, the jury heard evidence that exonerated McMath. "We were fighting for Jordan's life, because he was facing decades in prison," said Kevin Sanborn, McMath's attorney, in a prepared statement. "Ultimately, the system worked, and an innocent man is free and home with his family tonight.

" The evidence presented at trial included text messages, video footage, shopping receipts and layout demonstrations of the location in which the alleged assault took place, according to court documents. "We laid out the admissible evidence that was available and argued what we believed that evidence to be," State's Attorney Erik.
