A concert at Falcon Park in Auburn will support the construction of a Gold Star Mothers memorial in Cayuga County. Nationally touring rock band Held Hostage , led by Tom Collier, will headline a bill with Joe Van Dresar, Bill Ali and the John Parker Band beginning at 11 a.m.

Saturday, Oct. 5, at the park, 130 N. Division St.

, Auburn. The concert is presented by Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter No. 704 and American Legion Post No.

1776, both of Cayuga County. The memorial the concert supports will be constructed at the Cayuga County Vietnam Veterans Memorial at Centerport Aqueduct Park in Brutus. "This memorial will stand as a lasting tribute to the families who lost a child in combat in defense of our country," organizers said in a news release.

"'Greater love hath no man than to lay down his life for another.' These words are brought front and center with this tribute to those families who have given the last measure of sacrifice for all of us to have the life we have. Their sacrifice and the sacrifices of their families has not and will not be lost to those of us who live in a country with our freedoms won by their ultimate gift of life to our great nation.

" "A Gold Star Mother’s tears are a badge of both resilience and compassion in memory of her child." The concert will also honor local law enforcement and first responders, organizers said. Along with music, the concert will feature bounce houses for children, trucks on display, a 50/50 raffle and food from the Falco.
