Pune: Cybercrooks duped an auto components manufacturing firm owner from Kothrud of Rs8.86 lakh when he was trying to cancel his flight ticket . An officer from the Kothrud police said the victim was checking a travel website to cancel his air ticket on July 14.

“He contacted a cellphone number mentioned on the website to cancel the ticket. The receiver of the call took bank and debit card details from the victim and told him to download an application,” the officer said. He said it was a remote access app, through which the crooks gained access to his bank account.

“They even added two beneficiaries to the victim's current account through net banking and siphoned Rs 8.86 lakh in seven transactions between July 14 and 17,” the investigating officer said.
