The 2024 Louisiana-Mississippi-West Tennessee District of Kiwanis International Firefighter of the Year is His selection was announced at the LaMissWTenn District 106th annual convention in Tupelo, Mississippi. Wingate, chief of training for Ascension Parish Fire District 3, was nominated by the Kiwanis Club of Ascension. Attending his award ceremony on Aug.
5 at the Ascension Parish Fire Department Training Center were Wingate’s family, students and Kiwanis Club of Ascension members. "With 20 years of dedicated service to the St. George Fire Department and Ascension Parish Fire District 3, Wingate’s contributions have made an indelible mark on the fire department," a news release states.
"Chief Wingate is recognized for his pattern of leadership, innovation, exceptional community service, professional development, integrity and contributions to the fire service as a whole." Daughters of the British Empire -- Strawberry Fields Chapter of the Daughters of the British Empire held its monthly meeting April 28 at the home of Julie Wright-Rollins. Special memories of late member Nelda Boyd were shared along with a platter of her famous chocolate chip cookies.
