Anything can happen on a Friday night, but heading into Week 8 action we have already had some surprises when it comes to the High School Football season. As I stepped in for my 24th year of professional journalism in some form or fashion, I was not expecting some of the results I have seen so far. The first big surprise was with the Westwood Panthers.

I can admit, I knew they were good but not No. 6 in the state, scoring 60.8 points per game and allowing just 17.

5 points defensively. They continue to make it look like they play a video game with some of the designed plays they have in their offense. You have to give credit to quarterback Kavian Bryant, running back Jon Denman and the rest of the players on the Panthers.

They could be a major contender when it comes to the postseason run here in the next few weeks. Another surprise came out in Houston County with the Grapeland Sandies. Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Jordan Wood has his team believing in the program as they came into Week 8 with a 5-2 record with the two losses coming by a combined eight points.

With games against Cushing, Tenaha and Lovelady left, the only team ahead of them in the playoff race is the Lovelady Lions, who were undefeated in district play. We could see at least two teams currently punch tickets to the postseason in the middle part of November. When it comes to the remainder of the Anderson County schools, how will the stories finish out for the Cayuga Wildcats, Frankston Indians, Elk.
