Mandurah’s iconic bridge will be painted as part of the city’s upcoming arts festival this September. The month of festivities kicks off on September 6 with the Headliners Comedy Gala at Peel Thunder Football Club. This will be followed by large-scale mural painting, symphonies, immersive cultural experiences, children’s entertainment, exhibitions and epic performances until October 6.

Underneath the Mandurah Bridge, two murals will be created on its columns and walls. WA-based artists Nicola Cowie and Kat Ferguson will design and paint the bridge’s support columns, and Tasmanian-based WA artist Mel ‘Melski’ McVee will transform the walls beneath the bridge. The artists were picked via an extensive selection process open to local and interstate applicants.

At the hands of these artists, the blank spaces will transform into works of art responding to the surrounding environment. The festival was introduced in its month-long form in 2023, following a new arts and culture strategy for the city. Mayor Rhys Williams said the Mandurah Arts Festival was one of the highlights of the city’s new strategy.

“We are so fortunate to have an extremely talented and highly engaged artistic community in Mandurah,” he said. “All the people, projects and incredible artistic pursuits further cement Mandurah’s position as a city of art and culture. “The festival’s diverse program has something for everyone and I hope people take the opportunity to come to Mandurah to see .
