The highly anticipated Coldplay concert in Mumbai in January 2024 has been embroiled in a legal controversy due to the black marketing of tickets. It has led to a massive outrage on social media as people could not buy tickets to the concerts despite the British rock band increasing one more day of performance. It was later revealed that some tickets have been sold on the black market for a much higher price, which also grabbed the attention of Mumbai Police.
A post shared by BookMyShow (@bookmyshowin) The Economic Offence Wing (EOW) summoned Ashish Hemrajani, CEO of Big Tree Entertainment, the parent company of BookMyShow. The company's technical head was also summoned for an investigation into the alleged black market ticket sales. However, both missed the summons, but the Mumbai police recorded the statement of Anil Makhija, the chief operating officer of BookMyShow.
Now Book My Show has filed an FIR about the illegal ticket sales as well. An FIR was filed with the Mumbai Police on October 2, which was registered at Vile Parle Police Station accusing scalpers of black market activity surrounding ticket sales of Coldplay concert set to be held in Navi Mumbai in January 2025. The FIR charges the accused under sections 318(4) and 319(2) of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), as well as section 66(C) of the Information Technology Act.
