Christopher Nolan's next movie will hit screens in summer 2026, and there's an A-list star in talks to lead it. The director's latest blockbuster, Oppenheimer, distributed by Universal Pictures, took home seven Oscar awards. Now, details have come to light about his next project, reports Deadline, with Universal Pictures once again at the helm.

Slated for an IMAX release on July 17 2026, the plot details are still unknown but a leading man is already in talks. Namely, Matt Damon, who was amongst the star-studded cast in Oppenheimer and had previously worked with Nolan on the sci-fi drama, Interstellar. While most details are still under wraps, Deadline reports that the film will start production in early 2025.

Before Oppenheimer, Nolan had worked with Warner Bros. for the majority of his career. In 2020, the director openly criticised the studio's decision to release its 2021 film slate on streaming platform HBO Max, on the same day as in theatres.

He later signed on with Universal, breaking their almost 20-year partnership. The director has since addressed his departure from Warner Bros. In 2023, he told Variety: “It’s water under the bridge.

” Matt is no stranger to the Oscars stage, either. In 1998, he won the Best Screenplay award for Good Will Hunting alongside his collaborator and friend Ben Affleck. Damon has also been nominated for the prestigious Best Actor category twice: for The Martian in 2016 and Good Will Hunting in 1998.
