The city's Chinese New Year Festival, now in its fourth year, is the 'only one of its kind' in Lancashire and is set to become one of the region's 'most popular and well-attended events.' The festival, which celebrates the start of the Year of the Snake, is anticipated to attract around 5,000 visitors. Josh Leung, from organisers Popber, said: "The city has a thriving Chinese community , including Lancaster University international students.

"However, the festival is for all. "It’s important we share our culture with everyone in Lancaster and across the district." The cultural variety show takes place on January 19 at Lancaster Grand Theatre from 6pm, featuring performances from the Manchester Chinese Academy of Dance, Pagoda Arts, and Kunshan Opera.

Tickets are available from the Lancaster Grand Theatre box office. A free, family-friendly carnival and market will be held in and around Market Square on January 26, from 10am to 6pm. The festival opening ceremony will be at noon on the Market Square plinth, followed by a Dragon and Lions parade.
