Thursday, October 24, 2024 Egypt’s tourism sector is experiencing a remarkable surge in 2024, with a 65% increase in Chinese tourists compared to the previous year. According to the Egyptian Tourism Authority, the number of Chinese visitors to Egypt is expected to surpass 300,000 by the end of the year. This growth highlights the rising appeal of Egypt as a top travel destination for Chinese tourists, bolstered by cultural initiatives and enhanced cooperation between the two countries.
The positive trend was spotlighted at the China Outbound Travel & Tourism Market (COTTM) 2024 trade fair, where Egypt ’s Minister of Tourism, Sherif Fathy, underscored the importance of enhancing tourism ties with China. He emphasized the role of cultural exchanges in fostering closer relations, citing initiatives such as the “At the Top of the Pyramids” exhibition in Shanghai, which has significantly fueled Chinese interest in Egyptian history and culture. Egypt has implemented several strategic measures to attract more Chinese tourists.
One major initiative is the launch of a Chinese version of Egypt’s official tourism website, aimed at making travel information more accessible to Chinese visitors. Additionally, Chinese signage is being installed at key tourist attractions, and there is a growing focus on increasing the number of Chinese-speaking tour guides to improve the overall visitor experience. Sherif Fathy stressed the importance of cultural engagement in driving tourism grow.
