Multi-million pound plans for a new theatre space are set to become a reality after they were approved for construction. Chichester District Council gave the green light to the city's Festival Theatre to build a 120-seat studio within its grounds with hopes it will be used for fresh talent and innovative performances. Fundraising has started and the bid is being backed by director Sir Sam Mendes.

The versatile space, called The Nest, will be in a space between the main Festival Theatre and Northgate Car Park and will offer technicians, performers and community groups a space to hone their skills at the start of their careers.
