Charlize Theron has admitted that she experimented with girls in the past. The Oscar winner, who turned 49 on Wednesday (August 7) has dated the likes of actor Sean Penn and Third Eye Blind singer Stephan Jenkins in the past. But the actress said she also 'explored' things sexually with women when she was younger.

She was asked if she's ever "swam in the lady pond" during an interview with Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen in 2017. Charlize looked a little taken aback by the question, which some have since criticised, but she wasn't afraid to answer. "When I was young, yes," Charlize said.

"When you’re young, you’re just kind of exploring it all. But it was pretty clear that I really liked dudes." Fans in the comments slammed Andy Cohen for asking about her sexual history.

"I feel like this is a rude question to ask on television," wrote one. "applause to charlize for handling that question respectfully [sic]," said another. A third commented: "A question to Andy, just curious, would you ask a male actor like James McAvoy if he dipped in the gentleman pond?" She had been discussing her bisexual character in Atomic Blonde - secret agent Lorraine Broughton - and said she feels bisexuality isn't represented enough in films.

"Why not? It’s just so strange when we talk so much about it. "It should be normalised by now. It’s something I feel is not represented enough in cinema.

.. I feel that when you make movies, if you’re going to hold that mirror up and reflect so.
