The Celtics entered the season with just 14 players on the roster in order to maintain some flexibility for a potential in-season move. However, it appears Boston is doing some due diligence on that front. According to Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report , Boston’s front office explored some possibilities with its roster last week.

Fischer notes that the Celtics spent some time this month gauging the value of reserve guard Jaden Springer before final roster cuts were made. Boston elected to cut Lonnie Walker last Saturday and keep Springer on the roster. “I definitely heard around the league — a deal did not get done — but the Celtics front office called several teams to check in on Jaden Springer’s value,” Fischer said in a Bleacher Report video.

“That’s a thing that’s common. It happens. Deadlines create action and needing for flexibility and creativity.

“Teams will check in to see what the evaluations are for other teams around the league to file it away. Come back come December 15th or February, if you need a third team to come into the fold. It’s helpful for Boston to keep a database of which teams are actually interested in a former first round pick like Jaden Springer.
